EXPERIMENTA

September 20 @ 4:00 PM - 6:00 PM

From the dreamlike merging of bodies on celluloid film to an opera on trans liberation, our screening of experimental filmmaking celebrates artists working outside the norms of traditional filmmaking.

Program:

Born with an Extra Rib (dir. stefa marin alarcon & LILLETH, 2022, USA), 40 mins

“Born With an Extra Rib” is an operatic biomythography for the diasporic and dysphoric, longing to find a body & a place to call home.

Spiral (dir. Juliet Belisario, 2024, Canada), 2 mins

Experimental and documentary techniques converge to paint a dreamy picture of two twenty-somethings on a night out.

Neutralizer (dir. Shan Leigh Pomeroy, Canada), 2 mins

A meditation on gendered washroom anxiety.

Lost Nocturne (dir. Gates Callahan, 2024, USA), 2 mins

An exploration of events that would rather be forgotten.

Adama (dir. Dan Max Nitsan Meyer, 2023, Belgium), 6 mins

“So God created mankind in his own image; in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.”

Thrymskvida (dir. Sonja Ortiz, 2023, Germany), 15 mins

A gender-bending fantasy dance short. When Thor’s hammer is stolen by his cunning archenemy, the supposedly invincible god must question his concepts of masculinity, otherwise, his world will soon lie in ruins.

Genderfluid (dir. La Fille Renne, Laure Giappiconi, Elisa Montei, 2021, France), 7 mins

“In my dreams, I fuck girls all day long.” A poetic dive into the erotic imagination of a non-binary person.

The Death in Sleep (dir. Mira Harumi De Koven, 2024, Canada), 3 mins

A skeleton overtaken by the forest begins to breathe. It then starts to decompose, in reverse.

I Was So Afraid Of You Running Away (dir. F. Nur Özkaya, 2024, Turkiye), 4 mins

““I Was So Afraid of You Running Away” is an analog film consisting of nearly 5 thousand frames being drawn by hand directly onto 36 mm film negatives.

Runtime: 81 mins
